ABOUT SAPUTARA

Saputara is small hill station located in Western Ghats. It is part of Dang district in Gujarat. It is one of the famous tourist destination from Gujarat state. Saputara has some mythological importance as it is said that Lord Rama spent 11 years or his exile here. It has some historical relevance. In 1960 when Bombay state was divided in to two state as Maharashtra and Gujarat, Saputara was conquered and became city in Gujarat region. It is the only hill station of Gujarat. Most of the tourist visits here to get rid of Saputara Lake and it’s amidst hills that covers you in 360 view of greenery. 

HOW TO REACH SAPUTARA

BY AIR

Nearest airport is Surat domestic airport which is 120 km away and International airport of Mumbai which is 250 km away.

One can take local bus from both the cities.  

BY TRAIN

Nearest railway station is Bilimora which is 50 km away from Saputara and it is further well connected from nearby major cities like Gujarat and Mumbai.

From Bilimora railway station buses and cars are available to reach Saputara.

BY ROAD

A national highway is well connected to Saputara from Gujarat and Mumbai. Drive is also so scenic. Further, there are state transport buses runs to Saputara from major cities like Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Pune.

Saputara is 400 km from Ahmedabad, 245 km from Mumbai and 290 km from Pune.

It is always preferable to travel on own vehicle.

MY EXPERIENCE OF BIKE RIDE TO SAPUTARA

Coming to my corner of the story it was random discussion started, and my friend was saying necessity to be far away in nature and that too on bike. We scrolled out some lists of hill station from Google that can be reached on bike and name appeared on top with Saputara amidst hill station at Maharashtra Gujarat border.

It was one of the place from Gujarat region which was in bucket list. We decided to give visit to Saputara hill station. It was 245 km drive for us, and we knew it was going to be one of the memorable experience for us. From Mumbai the road goes crossing through Kasara Ghat which itself is attractive. In monsoon one should never miss the chance to drive to Kasara with small waterfalls on one side and valley of other side of the road. It took us almost 4 hours to reach Saputara. Few km before you reach Saputara there is check point as you are entering in different state and it lies on the border of Maharashtra and Gujarat. When we had first glimpse of Saputara place it was complete net and cleanest hill station I ever seen.

As we reached we headed to one of the famous spot as Saputara Lake. This magical Lake has got the heart of Saputara to stay forever, many tourist visits and relax here for some time. It gives you the panorama view of surrounding. It is one of the stunning place that attracts boat riders. One can experience the boating here with the view of crystal blue water.

It was short one day trip since we had less time to explore, So we decided to cover few main points. After involving ourselves in the beauty of Lake It was time to visit another remarkable place Table point.  It is small plateau where one can drive and it is just opposite to rope way station on sunset point road. Those we love horse riding, for them it is superb place to enjoy. At table point there are small huts that selling hot food for visitors in reasonable rate. Saputara exist with some range of waterfalls which you can witness in mid of monsoon. As it was start of monsoon season we could not view the waterfalls.

VISIT TO SAPTASHRINGI FROM SAPUTARA

With this memories of Saputara we left the place and started towards another destination Saptashringi. It was not in plan but, “sometimes Journey is better than the destination”. It was drive of 50 km on route from Saputara. Situated in the range of mountain and gives the perspective to visit is Saptashringi.

It is Hindu pilgrimage situated near to border of Maharashtra Gujarat and lies in the region of Nashik. It is located in Nanduri village of Kalwan taluka. The temple is known as “three and half Shakti peethas” of Maharashtra. It is located in hill range of sahyadri of Western Ghats. While driving from Saputara to Saptashringi, one has to take left, that leaves you near the village of Vani and Nanduri. Drive is through extreme curvey trail with lush greenery and ziz-zag road which takes you to Saptashringi.

To add some more glimpse in that it was raining there being June month where everyone eagerly await monsoon to arrive. We were so lucky enough to witness first rain of monsoon. As rain drop falling on the earth’s dry soil and creating new fragrance was majestic. There are 510 steps to reach the top of Saptashringi. It also has direct rope way to reach at top. The forest in this mountain range has some medicinal herbs. 

DRIVE ROUTE TO SAPTASHRINGI

After this astonishing bike ride we started return journey towards Mumbai via Nashik highway. This trip gave us one of the memorable experience for life time. Another 3 hours and we reached back to Mumbai with cherish memories.

PLACES TO VISIT AT SAPUTARA

SAPUTARA LAKE- Famous for boating experience.

SUNSET POINT- It provides the beautiful view of sunset, located near Saputara museum.

STEP GARDEN- 1.4 km from Saputara and developed completely on steps.

HATGAD FORT- It is ancient place located 9 km from Saputara in Hatgad village.

GIRA WATERFALL- One of the amazing waterfall situated 50 km from Saputara.

SAPUTARA MUSEUM- It is museum that describes the culture, habits and arts of region.

SAPTASHRINGI TEMPLE- Temple for Hindu pilgrimage.

WHICH IS IDEAL TIME TO VISIT SAPUTARA

Ideal time to visit Saputara is throughout the year as climate from this range is very pleasant and attractive.

In winter temperature falls down below 10 degree.

In monsoon one can experience the glance of waterfalls.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU VISIT

• Spend at least 2 nights at Saputara.
• Gira waterfall is seasonal.
• Try to reach on own vehicle as drive is scenic
